What is the future of thinking?

Today, the figures for A level results came out, and as usual, they are the highest ever.

I also found an interesting article about how the internet is changing the way our brains work.  I do think its true, but its not news!

The problem for so many comments from so many people is that its not always in context.  So we are changing the way that exams are being measured and its making the figures look higher than figures from the distant past.  Nothing wrong with that.  What is wrong is that we are also, by a twisted misuse of logic, also comparing the kids doing the exams.  That doesn’t work!

A levels, as well as degrees and every other form of exam has suffered from not only grade inflation, but value deflation.  What do I mean?

Well, years ago, about 1950 or so, only 2% of the population had a degree.  That meant that they were very special, and had the ability to catapult a person into a different life.

What does a degree do today?  Well, with 50% of the youth aiming for a degree, they ain’t so special!  Rather than moving someone to another life, its meant that now jobs that could easily be done with a good O level, now need a degree!  In other words, with more people with a degree, there are more jobs that need a degree!
